Eclipse Season Begins, March 2025—Blood Moon Eclipse at 23°56' Virgo

A Blood Moon eclipse

Blood Moon Eclipse in Virgo

At 5:54 pm (Sydney time) today, there'll a Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse at 23°56' Virgo (at the South Node). This is the opening eclipse for our current eclipse season, with the second (or closing) eclipse occurring on 29 March, 2025 at 9°00' Aries.

Tonight's eclipse will be a Blood Moon, which means the Moon will appear red to us here on Earth. It'll be a pretty spectacular eclipse, mainly visible from North and South America. But it will be partially visible over Europe, parts of Asia, parts of Africa, and on the Eastern seaboard of Australia, as well. Having said that, the ancient Astromages would strongly encourage you NOT to go out to look at it (More on that in an article I've linked below.) Rather, to stay inside in prayer, chanting, cleansing, fasting, journalling, or in ritual.

The next two weeks are going to be important. Pay attention to what unfolds during this time. Also, pay attention to your dreams on the nights of these eclipses!! Eclipse dreams are a thing, beautiful people!!

Be mindful – eclipses are major portals that can suddenly and unexpectedly close and open whole chapters of Life. Depending on what they're hitting in your personal natal chart, they can cause major disruption. (Especially as Virgo's Ruler, Mercury, is Stationing just minutes prior to this eclipse, at 5:46 pm—at the exact degree of the Solar Eclipse in two weeks time. Further, Uranus is trining this Lunar Eclipse, increasing its wild card nature.)

We've already been in the vortex of today's eclipse for the previous two weeks. This means, we've already been given our itineraries, so to speak. What have the major themes been in your world over the past two weeks?

Today's eclipse (and the next two weeks) is going to support us in releasing all that has no longer serves us or our path.

How does this Virgo Lunar Eclipse call us forward?

This will be our first South Node eclipse in Virgo since 2007. (See Key Dates below.)

Unlike other Full Moons, this one isn’t for manifesting. It's certainly not for cleansing our crystals either! See my note below on this. It’s for releasing, purification (physically, spiritually, emotionally, psychologically), deep inner work, and recalibrating.

The Self demands from us that we become whole. This South Node Lunar Eclipse is encouraging us to release any attitudes or directions in life that are not in accordance with this demand for wholeness. You are being asked to release whatever hinders or distracts you from your path—for example: perfectionism, toxic productivity, control issues, unhelpful habits or behaviours, poor self-care, and a sense of not being "enough." You are being asked to relinquish whatever stands in your own way, so that you can become whole, and more fully step into your vocation.

You may also feel an overwhelming urge to clean, clear out, or purge your home, mind, and/or body. This response is quite normal under Virgo’s influence. (I can feel the current Venus Retrograde’s influence in this, as well.) You could feel called to intentionally fast or cleanse. Personally, I began a 40-day fast of sugar and cacao as we entered the vortex of this eclipse season, two weeks ago.

But fasting doesn’t necessarily mean giving up food. Instead, this Lunar Eclipse could inspire (demand) a fast from screen time; certain relationships; or ask you to step away from our culture’s obsession with distractions and busyness—all ways that we avoid ourselves. Fasting is an act of letting go and creating space—both internally and externally—so that you can better hear the sacred whispers of the Divine and your own unconscious mind. What is waiting to be heard?

Instead of feeling deprived and thinking you are fasting from something, I invite you to approach this differently . . . that you are fasting for something. For your wholeness. For your Path. For your relationship with the Divine. For your true, authentic Self to emerge.

There could also be a sense that you’ve been gestating within a safe container—like a butterfly within a chrysalis, preparing to emerge. In two weeks, the Aries Solar Eclipse at the North Node will urge you to move forward on your true path. Right now, under this Virgo Lunar Eclipse, you’re being asked to release anything that is blocking or obstructing that path. You’re readying to step out of the protective space that has been providing you with the necessary time and space to grow and develop, into the greater world. Your time of apprenticeship, gestation, or preparation is coming to a close. You’re strong enough, you’re ready to begin.

This is not a time for control, but for surrender—to allow your unconscious to speak, and to trust that the dissolution or cleansing this eclipse season heralds is making way for new clarity and freedom.

Setting Intentions

I've been asked if we need to set intentions around the patterns and behaviours that we want to release during this lunar eclipse? Not really. It's great to set intentions, and to hold ritual space, but it's more that Life itself will tell us what we need to look at, now. Messages will show up in clear, and quite unexpected ways – random conversations, unexpected events, and sudden urges.

What we can do is: firstly, make space and time in our world to receive the messages and images that the eclipses are bringing us. Secondly, trust these messages. They are guideposts to the new life we're being pointed towards. Thirdly, write down your dreams. Eclipse dreams are a ‘thing’. They open a doorway to the unconscious, and allow the Soul to speak to you.

Ritual

Rather than fearing the upcoming eclipse, it can be honoured as a sacred moment of heightened receptivity, where the universe listens deeply to our intentions and devotion.

Here is an Eclipse Ritual that I learned from Sherene Vismaya:

The Burning of Karmic Threads

  • Sit in stillness and meditate on what karmic patterns or emotional attachments you feel ready to release.

  • Write down the fears, relationships, or self-limiting beliefs that have come to light under this eclipse.

  • Offer gratitude for what they have taught you, even if painful.

  • Safely burn the paper, visualising the old energy dissolving into smoke, releasing you from its grasp.

  • Close the ritual with a mantra or prayer of detachment and renewal—you may use:

  • "I release all that no longer serves my soul. I trust in the unfolding of my Highest Path."

  • This simple yet powerful act aligns with the South Node’s energy of dissolution, making space for clarity, renewal, and conscious commitment moving forward.

A stack of beautiful journals or diaries.

Journalling prompts

  • What are the foods, objects, or attachments that clutter up your attention and your heart?

  • When you consider your mortality, some things naturally arise as being important. What do you observe becoming essential in your life?

  • If I took a sacred pause from distractions and methods of self-avoidance, what deeper truths might emerge?

  • How could I better attune to my inner wisdom?

  • What aspects of myself feel eclipsed or hidden from my conscious awareness?

  • Where do I go against my own deepest truth?

  • Where am I my own worst enemy?

  • Where do I persist in the wrong direction in life?

  • How can I now release these unconscious patterns?

  • How can I honour my body, mind, and soul—through movement, nourishment, or rest—so it can serve as a clear channel for my spiritual and creative energies?

  • Where am I resisting necessary endings or transformations?

  • If I release the need for external validation, how does my self-identity shift?

Considering all of the above:

  • What is the fast I choose for this eclipse season?

Key Dates: Looking Back Through Time

Eclipses return to roughly the same degree of the zodiac every 18 or 19 years. Whenever they return to any given degree of the zodiac, we often see the next chapter of an ongoing storyline unfold. If you'd like to know when we previously experienced this eclipse combination at these degrees, here are the dates to consider. (Consider the couple of weeks either side of the dates given below.)

- 15 March, 2006 (Lunar Eclipse at 24°14' Virgo)

- 29 March, 2006 (Solar Eclipse at 8°34' Aries)

It's important to note that eclipses will hit each of us differently, depending on what they illuminate in our individual natal chart.

Suggestions for digging into the past

19 years is a long way to look back. Here are some possible suggestions on how to place yourself in this timeframe:

• Read back through your journals.

• Look at your résumé or CV.

• Check the dates in old calendars/schedules (if you keep them this long???).

• Check old emails you sent/received during this period.

• Browse photos taken at this time.

Drawing Down the Moon and Charging Your Crystals

Please avoid putting your crystals, or similar items, out for charging tonight.

Yes, you might see plenty of posts claiming that this Blood Moon eclipse makes it a powerful time to charge crystals and jars of water, etc. It’s really not advisable!

Astromages recognise that the energy of eclipses is more aligned with cursing than blessing, as the eclipse literally overshadows our Light. So, please do not put your crystals out. For a more detailed explanation, see my article, Death Water is not a Great Idea, which I wrote during a previous eclipse season.

Trust our eclipse season. It may bring upheaval, or some stress, but it’ll be in service of our Paths. Embrace the new level of clarity, lightness of Being, self-awareness, and self-identity, it will bring.

As always, thank you for journeying with me. I'm so grateful for your company on this Path. If you have any queries at all, or you'd simply like to connect, please hit Reply and drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you!

Deep blessings. And remember, we all benefit when we all shine.

Peace

Juliette xo
